The best use of workspace requires the analysis of human behaviour. Designers use their creativity, experience and knowledge to deliver results that would show an improvement for desired human behaviour at work testing a variety of spacious elements.

As workspace designs are becoming more complicated, expectations increase accordingly. The psychology of human in the workplace raises many questions and improvements for the next generation of office design.



While the focus on collaborative behaviour was high in the last few years, the concern was raised for those who finds it challenging and need more relaxed and quit space. Thus, open-space design slightly changed and innovations were brought within offices to increase individual spaces within the workspace, thus it is more common to see work cubes that would separate space and provide individual space in today’s working environments.

The issue was to find a balance between collaboration and concentration. The simple solution is to understand and anticipate the needs of human behaviour. It is important to shape the space in a way that will be optimally used by humans which will lead to the workspace productivity.

According to Carl Jung (1921) there are 4 types of universal human cognition that include:
-ability of thinking, the way logic process and progress
-emotional drives and response as well as integration
-intuitive introspection (including building and achieving feelings such as trust and belief)
-senses and its influence how it interprets the surrounding environment

Workspace design will encourage or discourage workers’ behaviour. As people’s thinking, feelings, beliefs can be shaped using workspace components, it is important to analyse and examine these, as they will determine the future success.
Also, workspace is affected by organization’s culture which is formed by engaging teams within an organization that works together to deliver business results. As today’s business environment is more complex than ever before mostly because of new technologies and remote working, a diverse workspace should be encouraged that would fulfill the needs of employees.
